Responsibility for handling agreements related to sponsored project activities, including research, training, public service and other sponsored project activities; is distributed across various UCLA administrative offices based on the nature of the transactions and sponsors. The Office of Contract and Grant Administration (OCGA) has authority for agreements with government, non-profit, and higher education organizations. These transactions fall into four broad types of agreements:
Grants: Financial assistance mechanisms to support the conduct of research or other activities as described in a general scope of work.
Cooperative Agreements: Awards in which the funding agency remains involved in the research or project during its performance by the receiving agency.
Contracts: Agreements to provide support for research or other activities in return for a set statement of work or deliverables.
Subawards:
- Subgrants: Agreements under a prime grant award to another entity that provides financial assistance to UCLA to support the conduct of research or other activities as described in a general scope of work.
- Subcontracts: Agreements under a prime contract to another entity that provides support for research or other activities in return for a set statement of work or deliverables.
In some cases, multiple offices may share responsibility for different aspects of the negotiation and administration of the agreement.
